I am looking at buying a 94 Winchester to shoot matches with. I have an old CSA tang sight that I want to use, but I need a base for it. The base that is on it is for a 74 sharps. The tang on the 94 will need to have both holes drilled, so spacing should not be a problem. Any idea if I can get a base that will work? I checked CSA’s website and I can’t find a base.

Cheers,

I have an old model 94 rifle with an ugly bore. It’s a 32-40 and I’m considering re lining or re barreling it.
Has anyone had any dealings with winchesterbarrels.com for new barrels?
Any recommendations for someone to install a liner?
This rifle has me scratching my head because it shoots jacketed bullets way better than it should considering the bore condition. It’s pitted full length. I absolutely cannot get a clean patch out of it. Still it will shoot nearly MOA at 100 yards and holds about four inches at 200 yards with jacketed bullets. Lead bullets tumble at 25 yards. I haven’t tried gas check bullets yet.

My mother in law gifted me a nice old second model 73. I knew she loved me!? It’s been in my wife’s family for 120+ years. So far, the only problem I see is the set trigger doesn’t work. I haven’t had it apart yet, so not sure what’s wrong there.
The bore is actually looking pretty good. Of course, I want to shoot it so I’ll be on the hunt for 44-40 stuff to load for it.
I don’t know yet if I’ll need trigger parts. Is anyone making aftermarket parts for 73’s?
Any bullet mould suggestions?
I've got 2 Miroku Winchester 73s in .357 that I've had a few years and have shot mostly .38s in them. I had them out the other day to shoot some .357s in to hunt with. I shot Buffalo Bore 125gr and some well below max 158 gr handloads. I got case separations in both rifles with both loads. The cases separated right in the middle. What would cause this?

I picked this one up a few days ago and a spectacular Wyoming Jan. day allowed me to get out and shoot it. On bright days I can see the factory buckhorn sights really well and yesterday was an exceptionally bright day and the target and sights really popped. I have the Deluxe version of the same rifle. This one has a 24" tapered octagon barrel a bit better trigger than the 'Deluxe' which is getting a trigger job from Mr. Bill Fuch over in Ten Sleep.
I have spent considerable amount of time working up loads and testing and two loads standout from all others.
38 grs. O.E. 2F ,Accurate mould # 43-215E cast 16:1@.430" 218 grs. lubed with modified SPG lube, WW cases,W.W LP primers with a coffee filter wad over the flash hole, seated 1.590". These shoot 1360 fps with STD Dev. of 14.9. The coffee filter really settled down the Std. Dev. ,would like to see it a bit lower yet.
Second load was a surprise, and shoots perhaps the best,(target in picture)
38 grs. O.E. 2F, R-P brass Accurate mould #43-215E sized .429" all else the same as above load. I have not chronographed this load yet but will repeat it and see.The 44-40 has become a personal favorite cartridge in lever gun, it just works and does it well.Target was 100 yds repair center for a SR-1 target.

Found thison G.B. a few weeks back for a super price and finally got everything assembled, sights I wanted to use, brass, dies, good mould .Loaded up a 100 rnds. using one of Accurate's Moulds, Tom recommended for the 44-40 @215grs. and .430". bullet has one big fat lube groove. I have only used Win. brass and have no problem getting 40 grs. of Swiss 1.5 and compressing enough to seat the bullet in the crimping groove and have everything feed and function as it should.Accuracy, is everything in the 10 ring or X ring from the range bag. This rifle is a joy to shoot, easy to clean, Miroku did'nt do well with the case colors but the rest is great.
This is my first 44-40 and had heard all the stories of it being a temperamental cartridge not unlike the 32-20 WCF. I had no such issues to complain about it was easy enough. I wanted to get 50 and 100 yd. sight settings for the MVA Sporting Tang (Thanks Mac) and front globe sights. This rifle cleans up with a few wet patches and one dry patch. A little beeswax/bear grease on a patch finishes it up.

A New Old Stock Browning remake of the the Winchester 1895 came to our home to live. It is 1980s vintage so it is without the modernistical tang safety and super improved rebounding hammer. This -06 is geneerally pretty nice BUT----. Butt plate is the most plain piece of tin I have ever seen on a mid priced rifle and the magazine only holds 4 rounds instead of the five that go into my other 1895 (1900 Winchester). The butt plate I can replace but the magazine??

It looks like the magazine follower has a tab on it which bottoms out to limit capacity. I can take it apart and modivy the follower but, how difficult is it to reassemble the 1895 magazine?

Do any of you folks have experience with and options for this situation?

I see Brian listed the Spring Baker match so I better start thinking getting something loaded for the 93 Marlin .30-30. I haven't worked with this rifle since I got it except to see if it fires. I have the bullets cast but nothing loaded. All I have for smokeless powder is 4895 and black. For this game I better use smokeless because the relay will be moving pretty fast with most will be shooting smokeless.
I need you .30-30 shooters make a suggestion for powder for this old 1893 Marlin. It has the Special smokeless steel barrel but I want to keep it at 1400 fps or less with the accurate arms 31-151-G bullet that is a little light at 150 gr.
