I lightly lube the outside of the whole patch if I dont use a lube wad.
The cases I have the problem with are the .44-90 bn. They hold 100 to 110 grain of powder maybe the extra pressure those loads have plus the reduction of the case at the neck is the snake in the wood pile causing this. I do know that the same powder load in the bottle necked .44-90bn case drives the bullet a lot faster than the .44-100 straight. I can shoot a no lube bullet in the 100 with out pulling the neck off but I do get stretching.
