I knew a pilot here in the mid-60's that flew a J-3, and did his own flying/gunning from the back seat. He would set up the approach on a red fox w/the window open and barrel out the window, put the stick between his knees, grab the gun and shoot and drop the gun in his lap and grab the stick again.

Stick in the left hand, gun in the right. This one has taken a lot of coyotes over the years
