I pre lube my barrel with bullet lube softened up with a mix of Vaseline, a little lanolin. I also use this for patch lube for the round ball.
I dont use much on the patch just enough so it's rubbed in the patch then follow it with a dry patch. Or if I dont wipe I will coat the bullet and fire a fouling shot if I can for the GG or PP.
When the bore is clean and dry the first shot will leave a lead smear behind shooting a GG bullet. I have seen this checking it with a bore scope.
