It is very possible that the original Winchester scopes were oversize due to tolerances and such. I have one of the MVA copy's and I checked it, It measured just 1" and that is on the knurl at the eyepiece end.
I think that the DZ scope runs very close to the 1" limit but dont' have one to check. The Unertl small game scope is in the 7/8" range both front and rear.
