Ran some .22's

RE: Ran some .22's
Don,

Ok then, I'm not too far off at 200 meters then. I haven't done much shooting at 200M yet, I've only tested two types at that distance so far. With the Eley I had 5 in a group the was 4 1/8" ctc, only about 2 1/2" high but the little bit of gusty winds gave me more horizontal spread. With those little holes the groups look more spread out than with my .40 or .45.

I converted this rifle from centerfire to rimfire and the original CF extractor style just wasn't going to work worth crap. I was advised to go with a plunger style extractor. That turned into a project that had me sorry I ever started building a .22! Designing and making a 2-piece extractor was interesting to say the least. I made use of the original CF extractor, that I had modified, to move the plunger in and out mostly so I could figure out what was required, planning to make a new piece once I had a clue what I needed.

I just got the scope on my rifle last weekend and I was still having trouble with the extractor as it was so I did not shoot as much as I need to, but I was anxious to run some rounds through it. This week I made a new part that corrected the problems with the extractor and I'll get out again before Christmas and test the ammo I have again and the new ammo I bought this week.

I need to get sight settings with the iron sights first and then I'll put the scope back on for more ammo testing. I am hoping to go to a gong match New Years Day and I'll shoot that match with iron sights. Silhouette I would have to shoot with the scope, but round gongs should be ok with iron sights. I just can't see those odd shaped silhouettes with iron sights anymore. I have grudgingly accepted that fact and my scores last year showed it was a good move.

There are two or three things I'd like to do to my rifle yet but that will have to wait until I can steal some more time from all the things that I should be doing. With the extractor working well it is ready for some serious shooting and this is a good time of year to get that done even though the daylight hours are pretty short. By the time it warms up as much as it's going to the sun is already starting to set.
