The powder used can vary with the velocity you want to shoot and if your rifle is safe for that velocity.
The FTX bullet was designed to permit crimping in lever guns. To crimp requires a shortened case to give room for the pointy bullet.

What velocity are you looking for?
What rifle will you be shooting?
