Another guy named "Mike." That can't be all bad... Okay, filler is often used by shooters who are making lighter loads for the longer black powder cartridges, such as the .45/100s. With a .45/70 you probably won't need any. And, to duplicate the old carbine load, just use 55 grains of powder, then an over-powder wad of .060" followed by the bullet. That is just about like the old carbines loads the troops used. And seat that bullet deep enough that you are compressing the powder at least a little bit. Also, don't worry about power, a 55 grain carbine load barks very nicely. Shoot sharp, Mike
