BLACK POWDER OLD WEST CENTERFIRES

Firearms: Black Powder Centerfires of the Old West era; either traditional single shot or lever action, tubular magazine rifles with exposed hammers. No Winchester Model 95, Savage 99, or “handy-rifles.” Military rifles are acceptable; trapdoors & rolling blocks.

Black Powder Cartridges: Hyphenated calibers such as: .32/40, .38/55, .45/70, plus the original Sharps cartridges, as well as the “rifle/revolver cartridges” such as the .32/20, .38/40, and .44/40 are acceptable. This does not include; .357 Magnum/.38 Special, .44 Magnum/.44 Special, .45 Colt, .30/30, .30/40, or the .32 Winchester Special.

Ammunition: Preferably black powder, black powder duplex, or substitute. Smokeless powder loads are okay for a first-time shooter.

Classes (2): We can have the classifications of lever action repeaters and single shots.

Course of Fire: Paper bullseyes at 50 and 100 yards, or at 100 and 200 yards, depending on which range we use. Ten rounds at each target. Additionally, we have options for offhand silhouette targets as available.

Shooting Style: Either sitting position or prone with cross-sticks, kneeling or offhand. No benchrest or other supports.

Sights: Traditional iron open sights or aperture sights. No fibrer optics. Spotting scopes may be used during the relays. We will consider the use of traditional scopes on rifles. For now shooters with traditional scopes are welcome to join us; after which we might consider a separate classification.

Fees: Shooting fees are established at $8 per match on the Black Powder range (100 yards) and $12 per match on the High Power range (200 yards).

Prizes: Club sponsored prizes for 1st, 2nd, & 3rd plus C. Sharps sponsored prizes for the same placements in addition to the aggregate prizes awarded at the end of the League in Septmeber.

Amendment to Event Application: Subsequent to completion of the scheduled Muzzleloading match, an additional event for traditional centerfire cartridges; 20 shots, and paper targets at two distances. Also conducted as separate events as scheduled.
