.348Win + TrailBoss = No Joy!!

I got a Win. 71, .348 WCF in 1954 +-, and a couple of boxes of factory loads, 200 and 250 gr Silvertips. Grand rifle ! Only game claimed by it was a few whitetails, no challenge, and a 7x6 point bull elk. The bull fell to a single 250 gr Silvertip load @ about 50 yds, in heavy black timber up on Yellowjacket Creek, Idaho. Near Elmer's home. That bulls rack was so wide, I don't know to this day how he ever got thru that thick stuff. Quartered him out and carried him out on our young backs .

Jim, We could say the .348 was too powerful for deer. Mine sure never left any survivors! I do believe it was the finest lever action ever made although I do have a lot of respect for the outstanding Savage 99. Shoot sharp, Mike
