RE: .44-77 and paper patch?
Bill, I might add; My Jamison cases run with a neck wall of .0095" to .0113"
The Bell brass run at .011" +- 1/2 so I might tighten the neck a little plus make it a 5 degree/2 degree compound throat.
Don't know yet.

RE: .44-77 and paper patch?
Kurt,
I was wondering where you were! I mean we are talking .44 caliber here!
Thanks, that's just the sort of thing I wanted to hear. Because Shiloh is putting the barrel on this rifle I'm planning to go with their standard GG chamber. The main reason being that I know I can make that work with a 2-diameter PPB. I have experience with their standard chambers in my .45-90 and .45-70 plus other rifles with grease groove chambers and all have done very well with paper patch. Though there is one rifle I'm still working on.
Do you happen to have a drawing of Shiloh's standard .44-77 chamber/reamer or know where I can find one? If so, I'd really like to see it.

RE: .44-77 and paper patch?
Don,
I'm not afraid of using paper patch in a standard gg chamber. I know that will work with a well designed 2-diameter ppb.
Do you have a reamer/chamber drawing of the 7* chamber. What makes it capable of handling both bore diameter ppb and groove diameter gg bullets? I need to wrap my brain around that.
Eric is using that chamber in his .44-77 I believe? Who else is using it and to what effect?
I am unlikely to get a redo on this .44-77 so whatever chamber I go with has to have a high probability of working well with paper patch. Right now that is the standard chamber. I am open to other ideas, but I'd have to see an advantage in some other design before I would be convinced to go that way.
I'd like to hear from you guys who are shooting ppb in a standard Shiloh .44-77 grease groove chamber! Is it working for you?
Early next week I have to box everything up and send it out. It would be best to have what I want done written down and send it along and even better to NOT go changing things after they have the rifle for rebarreling.
I have no idea how long it will take to get done and the waiting will begin. I'll have a lot of time to think about things, but I don't want to go changing the call in the middle of the play.

RE: .44-77 and paper patch?
The 7 degree lead reamer is the standard reamer with the 7 degree lead on the end of it. Kirk would probably send you the drawings so you could see, but that reamer with the 7 degree built into it is a my pick.
The first 44-77 I got was the standard chamber, then I had a #3 rebarreled and Kirk said he had this new 7 degree lead reamer did I want to try it? Heck yes. So he sent me the rifle and said to shoot it just as quick as I could and let him know how it worked so he could get the 1/2 dozen or so rifles he had waiting to ship until he got this new reamer and some one tried it.. I did he said it looked like it was going to work and work well, and he chambered and shipped the rifles folks were waiting on. It shot both patched and grooved bullets well. I liked that chamber so well I sent the first 44 back to him to put the 7 degree lead in it. I later came to wish I had left that one alone as while it shot well, it didn't seem as tho it was as good as it originally was. So it now wears the 44-90st barrel, heavy sharps profile from GM that I won in a door prize drawing, with Dan T's chamber and boy oh boy does that thing shoot..When ever the only rifles that can whip you at a 48 inch circle at 1000 yards are military snipers shooting off a bench, you know you're on to something good.

RE: .44-77 and paper patch?
Jim I lost the chamber specs for the Shiloh .44-77 reamer that was used for my rifle do to a computer crash. As long as your using the Shiloh remer and barrel ask Lucinda or Kirk for the drawing they are using now and I'm sure they will give it. They did for me.
here is a drawing for my .44-90 BN that was used for my rifle. I'm sure the base dimensions are the same for the .44-77 and the dimensions ahead of the 11 degree shoulder will be the same. The .44-90 BN uses a 11 degree shoulder and the .44-77 uses a 8 degree but I thing the neck and throat will be the same for the .44-77. They are for my standard chamber fro the .44-90 and the 77.
As far as the 45 degree transition it can always be changed with a throating reamer later on. I get along with both but like the 4 and 5 degree better. Less problems with lead bullets patched or naked.
