RE: The 'itch'.....
Rick that is a fine looking shooter for sure.
Here is the last Hawken I build that has a 1 1/8 across the flats and even in the .58 caliber I need to drag a set of cross sticks on wheels to hole the front end up. That fellow weight 238# field dressed at the check in station. He walked past me at about 80 some yards when I woke up from a snooze and when the ball hit him he flew sideways.

THAT is one fine buck! Mdeland brought out that the wood/metal fit on the rifle I bought is 'piss poor'...not nearly as good as on my Shiloh rifles! Well....NOONE does the wood to metal fit as good as Shiloh but I told him I wasn't looking for perfection.....rather that I wanted a shooter now and the price was fairly decent! I've got another rifle I'm sending up to TOTW on consignment and the dough from that will offset this one a tat! As for the weight....I'm not going to be climbing Colorado mountains anymore; rather I sit my arse in a blind, drink coffee, watch turkey, coons, foxes, ducks, geese....and I talk to God quite a bit as it's a rather pleasant thing to do! I really don't give a 'hoot 'n hell' if I ever shoot another as I only hunt the BIG BOYS any way and that way....I have more fun! I've got ten days to look the rifle over/examine and I can send back if I so desire! I think it will be OK!

He he, Well Rick that was I was doing the day this guy came by. Had a nice ground blind sitting on a blanket up against a tree watching a Coydog pulling cockleburs off his back when I dosed off from the warm sun shining on me. If it wouldn't have been for a squirrel chattering above my head he would have walked right on by. Big Grin

I have enough parts for a late Hawken yet short of a barrel.

Some itches you just gotta scratch ! ... And we're all kids anyway after all. ... Just different aged kids ! Plenty of itches to scratch... just no pocket money left to work with.. Sad . Always wanted a 54 Hawken but couldn't quite bring myself to go the way of the muzzle loader. Still working on my follow through with the #74 Wink

Rick with these old shooters that where build in the barn or back room the inletting was a lot worse then your itch rifle. I build what I wanted to look like it was build 200 years ago. The wood shrinks as it ages and gets wet on and off in the rain and turns black.

Smile Don Kids like throwing rocks too as well as cap guns. Smile
