New guy - Rides A Pale Horse - 05-10-2014

Howdy from Denver!

Thought I'd take the opportunity to introduce myself. I'm a brand new member living in the Denver Co. area. I'm an old guy and have only been shooting black powder for about a year. I bought my first BP rifle about a year ago, a Pedersoli flintlock Pennsylvania rifle in .50 ca. Then about a month ago I took delivery on a Uberti Walker Colt. Haven't had a chance to shoot the Walker yet as, in doing some more research, I got sidetracked with another project that might be of some interest to some of the members here. I will provide details later as I wanted this to be an introductory post and not a commercial.

Looking forward to learning more and hopefully contributing to this page.

Thanks for the welcome Kurt! I guess "old" is in how ya feel. Numbers don't matter much anymore, it's how ya feel. Getting out and putting lead downrange makes a guy feel a lot younger. Just getting into "makin' smoke" and finding out it's a Helluva lot of fun!

Wondering how many BP revolver shooters are here. Maybe I'll mosey on over to the revolver forum and find out.

I shoot BP revolvers; not a lot, but I do shoot the 2 I have. I carry the Ruger fully loaded in the pickup almost all the time, and I use the Colt 1860 repro on the trapline. I've considered a '51 Navy for the trapline, because it might be a little better for most trapline work. However, the 1860 will for sure and certain "get 'er done."

Thanks for the reply IR! Couple of nice pieces you got there. I carry modern 'cuz that Walker is just WAY too much pistol to carry, besides, I haven't even had a chance to shoot it yet. Hell, I haven't even had much chance to shoot my Pennsylvania either but the few times I did it was a blast!

What are you trapping?

Well, I haven't done any trapping for a couple of years, but I intend to get back into it; hopefully next spring. I trap mainly spring beaver, raccoons, muskrats and an occasional mink. I'm not a long liner, rather it's a fun thing to be doing, and for me it re-establishes roots to the early days of this country; I think that is a good thing.

BTW welcome to the forum. I think you will find these guys very knowledgeable yet modest, generous w/ the info/data they have collected re: shooting, polite, and respectful of others. A good group to be around for sure and for certain.

Thanks for the welcome IR! Was just wondering about your trapping. I used to trap mink, muskrat and beaver when I was living back in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan a long time ago. Made a fairly good living at it so I'm wondering if there's still a market for pelts and if it pays anything anymore.

Lol! Not on my end either, (at least I don't think so).

Been away for a bit. Had a major computer meltdown last week, ended up having to wipe my entire hard drive and I'm still in the process of putting it all back together. Sucks.

Getting ready for Memorial Day. Might go up to the mountains to a nice, private range and make some smoke. Can't think of a better way to honor our military.

By the way, I have an item that some of the pistol shooters here might be interested in.

I'm re-creating the boxes for combustible paper cartridges for cap and ball revolvers so if anyone is interested, you can contact me through this forum.

Here's a couple of examples:

The boxes measure about 3"X2" and are two piece, box and cover. I have several other designs, graphics taken from existing photos.
