44-77 Questions - Nuclearcricket - 10-17-2013

Hi Folks, I have some questions about the 44-77. I am in the long slow process of putting one together on a Pedrosoli Rolling Block I have. Its currently a 45-70 and since I have several rifles in that caliber I really don't see a need for another one. So far I have picked up 90 Jameson cases, a 3 1/2 taper GM barrel, and have it polished. Now I need some info on a chambering reamer and wad punch. Does anyone know who is making the reamer that I have heard mention of that has the 7* lead already ground on the reamer? Second is a wad punch. In looking around I don't see many places offering .44 cal rifle wads and even fewer offering .44 cal punches. Since I have the ability of making my own punch (retired toolmaker) I would like to know what would be the best size to make the punch.
Another thing I am curious about is those of you that paper patch, how and what do you use to cut your patches? I did, once a long time ago, make a template for a .45 cal but I don't have access to a mill at this time so making one is out of the question for the time being. I do see, however, that Buffalo Arms does sell a template for the .44 so if need be I can get one from them.
One last question, not .44 specific. Do any of you use a bushing die to neck size cases? If so how far down do you size? The .44 is easy, just down to the shoulder but how far down would you go on a straight case like the .45-70?

Thank you for your help and having this wonderful site.
Sam

The patch cutter is the easiest ,go to a craft store and get a paper cutter and draw an angle on it.they are almost all lined with 1/4inch lines so making a strip is easy. Lay the strip on the angle and cut the patch.

Your wad punch should wait til you decide what chamber you want . IMHO the wad should fit snug in the neck . This is regulated by your bullet diameter and case neck thickness .
You will have to talk to the gunsmith to find out what he has or you may have to order a reamer for what you want ,for a reamer .
The conversations most generally associated with the cigs on here are referring to Shiloh rifle mfg, they have started to carry. A reamer for grease groove and a 7degree leade they also have a tight chamber reamer that will only accept a bore sized bullet . .C sharps also chambers for the 44 but I have no other info to add
