Made a change for failing eyesight - Kurt - 01-10-2023
My eyes took a deep dive a couple years ago that made it very hard for me to even see through a scope when the sun is covered with clouds or seeing in shadows.
I made up a Weaver scope ring mount for a modern scope so I can see developing loads to eliminate sighting errors. I mounted this rail on the dovetail blocks so I can switch from the NRA legal scope to a larger diameter scope that lets more light through so I can see when I shoot in heavy overcast daylight that the 3/4" scope we use for the matches.
This mount will let mw switch from the legal scope to a higher powered scope like this 6.5X20 Leupold scope in short order and still keep a close zero switching.
I used the Weaver Rail and adapted it to the Dovetail blocks. It took a little mill work making clearance for the scope objective I could have saved if I would have switched to higher rings to get the proper eye relieve but it would have made the scope to high.
I think this will work fine for me.

As you showed me. Very nice . That is some really good adaptation of that
Weaver rail to clamp on to the unertl/lyman bases.
More light gathering in the current generations of scopes.
My Unertl 2" x 20 power with 1" tube does better than a 3/4" tube 20 power.
But the other factors of the 30mm tube and better lense coatings,etc now adays, make the new scopes such as your Leo 6.5-20 x50 superior.--
brighter than the 2" Unertl.

I have a couple 30mm tubes one is a Springfield Armory 2nd gen ranging scope that is a little brighter than the Leupold and a Stepherd scope that is bright enough so you can see with a 1/2 moon light that is brighter than any scope I have but the ranging reticle that it's not the best for load work. But it's a very good scope for hunting. you put the game in the circle and shoot. Makes no difference if it's way out there. If the coy dog is in the circle shoot and he will drop. It also has a one shot zero that works like it should.
But this Leuplod is a fine scope that will do what I want. I sold two I had. I been cleaning out some of my stuff. I have too much I don't use anymore.
I mentioned on a forum talking about presses and I said I have presses under the bench not used for 40 years and I mentioned I have a RCBS A-4 Big max along with several other and man the PM came in wanting the Big Max. so it's gone.

Mine has a 1/8 MOA dot also. I hope I can see it on black when I get a chance to get a zero.

Kurt, Dot visibility is better when you had that great idea to hold at 6:00 on the black last summer at the Mini Palma

Yes that does Arnie, it let me see the cross hairs but I still got my ears shot off.
There are some very hard holders at that match that cut 45 holes inside that 1" 10 ring at 100 yards.

Is that your bpcr 22?
I recently traded into one of those little low walls. So far I’m thrilled with it. I’m currently waiting for an MVA sight base and Lyman globe sight for it. Wish I had your scope set up to test ammo. Great Idea.

I sure like my little low wall also. It's a fine shooter and my young Garand Daughters can handle the weight better than the 12# .22
I also have the MVA tang sight and mount for this rifle.

Kurt. That is a good looking scope mount.. I have thought that a picatinny rail properly relieved and drilled to match the 7.2" mounts would be very useful. Good to see you posting. Tim
