Cleaning media - Kurt - 01-21-2022 I been using the same Dave Maurer's ceramic media now for going on to 20 years but in the smaller .40 cal. cases I always have some I have to dig out and now the .38-50 cases most of them are jammed with the media so I did a search and ordered some Raytech 41222R Microbrite 4mm balls thinking the they should do a good job inside and out as well as not sticking in the case. For some reason I over ordered so I have a bunch for the two tumblers or swap some off. Have any of you used this ball cleaning media? I haven't tried any of it yet but I think it should do a fine job. RE: Cleaning media - Don McDowell - 01-21-2022 Haven’t tried the ball media but John Corney sent me some of the triangle stuff that seems to work well RE: Cleaning media - Kurt - 01-21-2022 I almost got some of that stuff but it didn't say what the size is. RE: Cleaning media - beltfed - 01-22-2022 Kurt, I have had and have used ceramic 3mmx3mm "triangle" media for many years. I bought it from Dan Theodore back when. He had bought a 55 gal drum of it and was selling it off. This media works just fine for my 38-50, 38-55, etc . Only an occasional piece will stick slightly in a primer pocket. But the media dumps easily from the inside of the cases. I also picked up some 3mm Spherical ceramic media which works well in bottleneck cases down to 223. The 3mm spherical does a good job overall inside and outside of the cases, but it does not do as good a job on primer pocket cleaning. There are numerous companies that sell each of these media, but in large , such as 55 cal drums of it. However, I found on ebay, and Amazon(if you care to deal with them). Smaller consumer amounts of each. Also, is it Sagebrush that carries it? Also Dave Mauer . Arnie RE: Cleaning media - Kurt - 01-22-2022 Well I put some in the tumbler for an hour to try it and it does what it's intention were. These cases were not just shot so no powder fouling to clean out but they were pretty dark from being in a can for a couple years but they came out bright inside and out. Yes Arnie I see that the primer pockets were only shiny over the flash hole but I usually use a mix of ceramic and SST pins to take care of the primer pockets.
