I see Brian listed the Spring Baker match so I better start thinking getting something loaded for the 93 Marlin .30-30. I haven't worked with this rifle since I got it except to see if it fires. I have the bullets cast but nothing loaded. All I have for smokeless powder is 4895 and black. For this game I better use smokeless because the relay will be moving pretty fast with most will be shooting smokeless.
I need you .30-30 shooters make a suggestion for powder for this old 1893 Marlin. It has the Special smokeless steel barrel but I want to keep it at 1400 fps or less with the accurate arms 31-151-G bullet that is a little light at 150 gr.

Thank you Don. I have shot the 336 .30-30 with jacketed bullets using 4895 and it shot very good using it but 3031 was a better pick for the lead bullets. I guess I just better go and get a can.
I shot the 93 loaded with black and it shoots it very well but that light barrel gets hot fast using it and by the time 10 rounds go through with these bullets the pressure on the lever starts to get tight.

I thought that was pretty good of Hogdons to include the 160 gr cast bullet in that data, gave loads right into the velocity range you're looking for. I like 4895 in the 223 and 3006, but was never fond of it in the 30-30.

I’m looking forward to the Big Hill shoots again, having missed all of them last year. I’ll be shooting the 1873 Uberti with black, as always. Sue will be shooting the 32-20 with smokeless.

4895 was and still is for my go to for the .308. I have used it in the 336 .30-30 but there is a lot better powder for the .30-30 and it pushes a cast bullet to fast even with a below starting load for what I want. Not enough powder can be just as bad as to much powder.
I just was wondering what you and others use with cast for the .30-30.
I just got a new 2 cavity mould from Accurate cut with the drawing Sgt.dog made up, the 46-467-L and the 46-454-A for the 95 .45-70 I want to use them in, especially the 454-A with a black load but right now I have sheetrock tore off in the house that needs time over casting bullets

The weather has me really stuck not being able to not do much for reloading. Have about half the stuff moved out to the new man cave and the other half packed in boxes , waiting for the snow and ice to melt to be able to carry it out and get set back up...
