Huntin in Texas - Dave Roelle - 12-18-2016

Hi folks, been putin in a bunch of time at the ranch and the range---

It been a great season so far and we still have a couple more weeks of the general firearms deer season remaining.

About a week ago we headed to the ranch ahead of incoming weather, predictions for some much need rain and cooler temps showed up just in time for the peak of the rut------critters were EVERYWHERE that Saturday morning.

Caleb got lucky:

This is only the 2nd droptine buck i had ever seen in the wild-----17 inches wide, 8 point with a 5 inch drop on the right side----4 1/2 years old weighted 135 pounds live weight.

Caleb still favors the Ruger #1 22-250------we use Nosler 60 gr Partitions that Caleb loaded with supervision

Just like the previous buck he harvested this one was --------------------- "shot thru the heart"

A bit later just before the rain started Caleb thumped this young boar hog critter

Not to be outdone we were sitting on a feeder before lunch, Caleb had won next shot AGAIN by rock-paper-scissors, and promptly fell asleep

This one walked out so i shook him awake---still sleep-groggy he said "gramps shoot em for me" so i put the K-31 to work, one shot NO TRACKING Smile

please excuse the d#$% upside down pics, nothing i do seems to get them "right side up" Sad

Ya'll have a fun safe Holiday Season

Dave & Caleb

Good job! Nothing better than to see the experienced hunters taking out the younger generation!

Nicely done by that young man!
Not knowing anything about hunting hogs, are they good table fare?

Good job Dave. Get that young man started on black powder too.
Mike the sows are good cooked in a ground covered pit ,cooked overnight. Boar meat will stink up everthing for days.
