.221 Fireball brass - Old Jim - 12-16-2016

Is there any BP use for this case? Can it be changed into something to fit a BP chamber? A buddy has 300 mostly new cases and the dies.
I know nothing about something this small, LOL.

Jim

I think you need to start cruising the gunshows, looking for an XP100 Smile

RE: .221 Fireball brass - Kurt - 12-16-2016

Yup Jim, there is the .300 Whisper shooter on out range that uses necked up .221 brass. I think that would make a fine load for a 44-1/2 Stevens action for 200 yard schuetzen rifle.

I do agree with you Kurt with the exception that its a rimless case and the 44 1/2 action will not handle it. I think it would be a nice round to go into a cadet action with a rimless extractor. Another option is to use .357 Max brass and have the chamber cut for the rim.
The case is just a little longer and a little fatter than a 32-20, but with a little shorter neck. The Whisper or BlackOut, depending on what you want to all it are fine little rounds. Hardly any recoil, good accuracy as a rule and it allows you to get more life out of your . 223 brass that has cracked necks.

Sam, your right. Never gave the extractor on the 44 1/2 a thought. He shoots a Browning low wall. But it sure stacks the holes from the 100 yard line.

Tell your buddy, rules say if you have the brass and dies, you have to go buy the gun to fit it.
I almost bought a nice little rifle chambered in that at a pawnshop a couple years ago. been kicking myself ever since. Even tho I have a 222, and a 218 Bee and a 219 zipper and a 22-250 and a 220 swift, you just can't have enuf 22's !!

Smile I think we all passed up a rifle that we wish we would have taken it home then and there. Smile
I also passed on a .219 zipper improved heavy barrel on a 85 action for $600. about 6 years ago on a consignment sale. Ugly hunk of wood on it that looks like it was cut out with a sawzall but it has a single set trigger. Now I wish I had the action.
