45-75 SS - Mike - 11-18-2015

To the cartridge collectors among us; have you ever seen a .45-75
Sharps cartridge that was headstamped ".45-75?" In the 1916 Winchester catalog this cartridge is shown with the .45-70 headstamp, however, that is a sketch and not a photograph. In my old copy of Cartridges of the World the .45-75 Sharps is shown with a ".45-75 S" headstamp, also a sketch. I've never seen one of the old original loads for the Sharps load in the .45-70 case and just wonder if anyone of you have seen one with the .45-75 marking. (I understand that Jamison made a rather short run of .45-70 cases with the .45-75 Sharps headstamp and they promptly sold out.) I might have asked this question before but hopefully some new eyes will see it. Shoot sharp, Mike

RE: 45-75 SS - Hiwall55 - 11-18-2015

Mike, I never saw one and I have a couple friends with extensive cartridge collections. But it sure would be neat to have some.like 150....

RE: 45-75 SS - Mike - 11-18-2015

Hiwall, After you get your 150 of 'em, pass on any extras to me. I most certainly would appreciate it. (I even suggested to Jamison that another run be made but they're probably too busy with other items.) Shoot sharp, Mike

There is a 1873 Win. in the .45-75 caliber for sale right now in gun broker. It is a little rough. http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=523676237

Here is a little write up for that caliber. http://www.oldammo.com/january11.htm
You might be able to neck down a .50 sharps and cut it down.

RE: 45-75 SS - Mike - 11-20-2015

Kurt, That's the .45-75 Winchester and Jamison makes brass for it. Interesting information though. What we'd like them to make is a run of brass for the .45-75 Sharps Straight which was simply the .45-70 case with the Sharps .45-75-400 or 420 PP load. Shoot sharp, Mike

Mike.

I had no idea Sharps chambered a .45-75.
Sort of sounds like a .45-90. Have to google and look and see what I can find. Smile
