RE: Gussy's Buff Video - Kurt - 10-22-2015 Jim, It looks like you used Thor's hammer on him. Good job. Kurt RE: Gussy's Buff Video - Dave Roelle - 10-22-2015 Wow that's Impressive on a critter that big -----------also shows how an ODG hide hunter could shoot more than one !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Looking forward to some follow up details Dave RE: Gussy's Buff Video - rdnck - 10-22-2015 I'll be glad when Gussy gets the chance to post the details of his caliber and load. Whatever it is, it is a good one. That buffalo went down as fast as any I have ever seen. Shoot straight, rdnck. RE: Gussy's Buff Video - Nuclearcricket - 10-22-2015 Like the rest of you I am also very interested in hearing the story. I have watched the video several times and it does look like it was a spine shot. If you blow it up to full screen you can see the dust puff from the impact. It is also an excellent example of just how the ODG's managed to have good target selection. The video clearly shows how the heard gathers around a fallen member and that would surely make for easy pickens if it was your plan to shoot as many as you could or wanted to. Other than that, Gussy great shooting and congrats on a nice Buff. Looks to me like good eats and fun times. Sam RE: Gussy's Buff Video - Gussy - 10-23-2015 We made 4-5 approaches and several moves each time before one wanted his picture taken. The herd was jumpy and moved when they figured we had bad intentions. Man those animals can run fast!! Nice warm day with a slight cross wind. I fired 2 foulers early in the morning and then we went out. It was nearly 3 hours later when we finally got a clear shot on a young bull. I did hurry the shot slightly as I was worried about him mixing back in and got too much front sight up, which caused the high hit. On the good side, nearly no meat lost!! Same 45-90 I used last year with the same open sights. The same load too, Old E powder, 90 gr. with a 30-1 Government bullet out of a Lyman mold. I had a scope on it here at home but finally decided I could see better with the copper front sight and open rear. The scope is back on and I will use it for elk next week and maybe deer tomorrow! The scope picture wasn't as good on the black Buff hide as it will be on deer or elk and I have to have positive ID on the horn size to shoot either. The meats in the freezer and steaks are on tonight with a glass of wine!! RE: Gussy's Buff Video - rdnck - 10-23-2015 That is a hard combination to beat. That old Lyman Govt. bullet at 30-1 has been doing the job for a lot of years. Sometimes I wonder why I ever shoot anything else. Thanks for the update, and once again, good job. Shoot straight, rdnck. RE: Gussy's Buff Video - Mike - 10-23-2015 For a hurried shot, that was a mighty fine one. Some doin's, for sure!! Shoot sharp, Mike |
