couple of rugers - Plastikosmd - 05-07-2015

Here are a couple rugers. Top one, new to me. Built by Schwartz (Wayne I believe) built in early 80's . I topped it with an old balvar. Came with a ton of correspondence between builder and owner (Gibbs.) Last owner sold it to me as a 30-30 but the paperwork appears to reference another caliber. Bore is .310. 2 breach seaters. Cool custom stock with removable comb for loading with the straight seater. I believe that was done by a peter shuttleworth, it is in papers.
Second is a Barry Darr build, action serial number is 3 digit. Was built on 1971. It was a personal gun of his, am the 4th owner behind a Bob A. (All I know, lives in iowa) then Virgil Davis. It is 32-40 with cam type seater. Topped with a unertl 20x

COOL stuff!

Over the years, I've had several #1s, mostly in p'dog calibers though.

But then, these 2 are p'dog rifles anytime you'd care to put 'em to that use Big Grin!

Plastik, the Unertl on the 32-40, is that an ultra varmint with a large (1.3" diameter) eyepiece? Do you have the caps for that scope?
That is a very fine looking pair of rifles by the way.

No, programmer scope. I have maybe 4 or 5 of them...Can't remember. U can always tell if it is a programmer if it has the 3 knurled rings on end. (2 close then one a bit further away) Fun little scope. Yes I have caps. Not sure on objective size

RE: couple of rugers - Nuclearcricket - 05-09-2015

Ok thanks, and thanks for the educational moment. What I was curious about was a measurement over the threads on the eye piece cap. I make caps as a sideline for a little beer money so to speak and the sizes I have gotten on the large Unertls have been all over the board and was just curious. It is hard to track down these scopes to see if what I made fits before I send it out. I did get a reply back from one customer that has an Ultra Varmint that I made caps for and he said that they fit great. So maybe I got it figured out, I sure hope so as those large front caps are a real pain to make on my little lathe.
