BPCR Primer Wads Test Results - TexasMac - 03-26-2015
Guys,
You may be aware that many BPCR shooters use primer wads over the primer or under the powder in an attempt to further reduce the primer power (brisance). The intent is to reduce velocity extreme spread and lower standard deviations. I’ve been using under-powder wads punched out of 0.004” copier paper, but until now have never run tests to determine if they’re effective or if a different thickness is a better solution.

Good write up and excellent web site also. A lot of good stuff on it.
I have tried the wads under the powder from news paper to .023" tablet backing and I must say, every one of the wads had a hole through them. When I use pistol primers. I use craft poster boards that is .012" thick and seat the primer through it and they get punched through.
Also I see no difference in the accuracy doing this Wayne. I have not shot these through the chronographs to see what it does for consistency readings.
I think it's security blanky to some using them and that's OK.

Kurt-Just try the coffee filter 'wads'.
I punch mine at .40 cal dia for my .45 cal loads..
Would like to hear how they work for you.

Nah Gary. I went as far as I want to go with this. I get tired digging the wads out of the primer pockets and cases before I clean them.

White ones that you can buy in bulk from Sams Club or Costco.
Never have used the brown filters.
I do wonder what is different in the paper between the two.
