Providence Tool Co. Peabody - Flash Pan Dan - 12-12-2014

A buddy of mine picked up one these rifles and sent pictures of it and a nice buck he shot with it. His is in 38-56. Has anyone had any experience with one of these rifles? They look pretty cool.

Dan I don't see a rifle Smile but I had a .86 Win chambered in a .38-56 that had a dark bore and still shot good.Smile

I just looked that company up and http://www.providencetoolcompanyllc.com/rifles/ it's not that far from me, about three hours.
The problem with the old Peabody calibers is to get a case of the original dimensions. Maybe RMC ? I always thought the large diameter short bottle necked cases they chambered like the .40-90 or the .44-95 if the powder burn would be more efficient in that chamber and if this would improve the accuracy?????

Oddly enough, Providence Tool Co. doesn't offer this rifle in any of the original Peabody calibers other than 45-70. They offer it in 40-65, 45-110 and a few others in certain models. I was just curious to find out if anyone had seen or shot one of these modern made recreations. It looks very interesting but if it don’t shoot it doesn’t much matter how good they look.

There just isn't any brass around anymore that matches the Peabody base diameters except the .45-50 maybe I have a bunch of .44 basic that would work for that, or the .44-77 brass. The rest would have a 43 Egyptian type of base. or maybe a 24 ga. shot shell.
