Smith Enterprise Rear Sight - Klaus - 07-14-2014
Good Morning from Germany,
i need your help / experience
i like to use open sights on my Rolling Block but good sights wich fit on this Rifle are rare.
Until today i use a MVA R& R Sight and a Tangsights from Pedersoli
For my own i would like to try a Semi or Full Buckhorn Rearsight
Unfortunately the Buckhorm from Shilo would not fit a Rollingblock and so looking for another one.Finaly i found the Smith Enterprise Sight at the Net.
Of course much expensiv, nearly 100 Bucks more than a one Shilo Sharps , but i`ve been thinking about to order one.
Have you got any experiences with this sight?
Any information is very welcome

Send old Jim a pm on this, as he apparently hasnt' checked in on this thread. He has a roller with one of those sights on it, and I know it worked very well for him on an antelope hunt.

Klaus,
I have a Smith XLR buckhorn sight on an old 45/90 roller, works very well. Got it about 10+ years ago, but I don't think they have changed the design. They offer two models, 3/8" dovetail and 0.450". The long-range, upright portion of the sight has small indents along the side so the shooter can mark the indent groove for the 200, 300 yd. distances. With the LR sight folded down, my sight is dead-on at 100 yds. My front-sight is a copper blade.

thats what i am looking for but i was afraid to waste my money if it would fail. So i was asking here for some advises.
Unfortunately this sight was not available here in Germany
From where do you have got yours ?
I found Brownells and Midway as dealer in the US.

Open sights on these rifles are different for my eyes and yours. The shooting experience after the sight is installed takes some time to get used to seeing/aquiring the target thru the buckhorn sight. For my own experience, I shoot at life-size targets of the animal I intend to hunt, setting it at different distances from the rifle. My 45-90 rifle will place 5 shots into 4" at 200 yards when fired from a sitting position on the ground.
The Smith sight is a good one for open-sight hunting,

thx for your advise
i was shooting on Silhoutte or Animal Targets instead as of the normal round.
Unfortunately i do not hunt and it is not common to hunt with the BPCR here in Germany.
I would like the sight for target practice because i like the open much more as aperture sights.
By the way i was searching at the Shilo forum and think about i found a picture of yours and your 45-90 Roller. Orville posted this for some times ago.
