RE: Franks patching board - Frank Savage - 03-22-2014

We had weather change from dry and sunny to moist several hours ago. I came to folow on the boards and found three of them torn beyond any repair because of this. The rest is nicely sound.
I think I have the reason sorted out, because it seems that it breaks where the slitting machine was stopped in the middle of the slit for some reason and when this is sanded down and placed in such a manner that former edge of the slit is close to the glued and screwed fence. Also I know now how to avoid such unpleasant surprise in the future-both in wood selection and sawing patterns.
But no way I will try to hide the fact I´m pretty new to working with quite higly figured wood. The picture below is not good at all, but I hope it gives some idea about what gives me a bit more hell than I expected. Even the plainest pieces have such waves and curl, but some of them are cut in more favourable way than the other pieces. BTW, the surface is just as I dropped it from the plane-no sanding or fine scraping at all.

Still a bunch of work, haven´t been asleep befor midnight last three weeks. Very slow progres, since I´ve again found how easy is to slip and (almost) ruin a thing when one is tired and trying to be "time effective".
But I´ve promised and the boards WILL be done.

I know it´s awkward, but it seems to me I´m able to finish and deliver these during Jan-Feb of the next year due to all the mess I have to spend and/or waste my time last three months, right after things started to turn onto bright side. I have now no room for any error, because I´ve run out of "wood allowance" when I tried to continue when I was a bit more tired than I supposed I´m. It went that far that I´m on the range only once a month...
Will crank out the brass fittings this or next weekend, got tooled up to make it fast and efficient during last week to save time and nerves.

Good news are that I probably have a way how to get wood for next bunch of boards, but will know for sure during about 2 months.

If the time is too long for some of you who showed interest, PM me.

Kenny,
would it be possible to see a picture of your board?
