Kurt, is that photo a part of your "man&maid weather forecast house setup" (hell, don´t know how you call that), or is that your 1200 bushel corn reservoir and two storey feed&grain prep house?
If the second, I bet you can map some ice movement in your backyard. And have a boat ready for spring melting :-)
Edit: If the second, you can shoot into the cap atop of the grain reservoir and then just check the eaves regularly :-D

Kurt this will make you feel better.. It's 2 degrees, we've got about 3 inches of new snow, and it's still coming..Got the first calf this morning.

Nope turned out normal time. Just got the usual first one a couple weeks early.
In this country calving Feb, March works better , because if April and May are normal weather, the little buggers are old enough to tolerate all the moisture, and they are at an age they'll be able to take advantage of the milk their mommas can produce from the best grass they'll have all season.

At 2 PM we have 8-10 " of the white stuff on the ground since 9AM and another day of it still to go.

Guys, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but apparently there are multiple more storms that will be coming from Alberta and taking about the same routes;
kinda like nails out of a nail machine. Around here we don't have all that much snow, but I'm not far from having to put the extension on the ice auger. Ice is real close to 30" thick, and could easily be 40" by 1 March.Regards

Strange that you mention Ice fishing
I just checked out the ice condition on the Mississippi river back waters Monday. I went to all of the popular fishing holes and I did not see one shanty anyplace and no open water in the normal spots I saw every winter. That solid blanket of snow is a bad thing when your on the ice it could be bridging the thin ice where the currents rolling over rocks or shallows. Plus the snow insulates keeping the ice from getting thick. I went down to the dam to check out what the Bald Eagles where doing and the water boiling up from under the rollers is pretty close to the dam.
There were about 40 or 50 Eagles but the ice they land on to eat their catch is not blood covered like years past.
We got a new blacked of snow last night and the sun is out now but it's still snowing. We been getting hit just about every two days and I'm running out of a place to push it.
