You go easy with those 'peepers' of yours Kurt. Dont want any setbacks now. Let them settle in and heal up. Hopefully we'll get to catch up at the 'Q' or Big Hill in three months time. I too miss Jims communications, insight and experience. I'm quite sure the sentiment is shared by many.

Gavin, it's always a pleasure spending time with you and your mate on the Hill and the Q.
I have been doing what the eye doc told me and that is a rarity for me doing what the Doctors tell me to do. But this was my second warning shooting these heavy shoulder stompers during the high temperatures and shooting several hundred rounds in a short time period. It happened I think was 2018 on the hill in the right eye and last June in both eyes that really put me down. I have to get a final surgery in August to remove the vitreous that put a little blood in it during the detachment and it wrinkled the retina. I don't understand everything he told me but he was not certain the recoil did the damage again but it happen twice when I shot in the high temperatures.
This year I will shoot the little rifles. The .38-50 or the .40-65 but I will bring the 2.6

You should not have trouble getting on paper at Lodi with the 38-50 or the 40-65.
FWIW, I have been using Swiss 1.5 in the 40-65 for years, and am now using it in the 38-50.
Of course we do know that Rick uses 3F in his 38-50.....
But, will be interesting to see how current Swiss 2F may work

The 65 gr load of 3F Swiss shot well with the 358 gr DD bullet you drew up for me. It will make range safety at Lodi at 1380 fps but I don't have enough left for a complete match. Hopefully the new lot of 2F Swiss coming from BA will work as well.
I'm finding the 2F OE shoots just as well as the 1.5 last lot of Swiss. Really this rifle seems to digest just about any load pretty good.
The last load sessions I did with the CPA .38-50 is still a problem getting it comparable with the .38-50 DZ Hepburn. I been looking for a barrel to re barrel it it just never has shot well consistently and I will have it rebored when I find a place to send the barrel for the .44-75 Ballard chamber. I like that caliber.
I had a new .38-50 reamer made by Manson with the Dan-T design, like your rifle and right now I'm making a sizing die for it for the proper chamber match. I will make it sometime next week.
I haven't decided yet if I will get a 10 twist or another 12, maybe a gain twist????
But right now I'm not sure if I can improve the 12 twist using the 371-360-E-DD.

I actually am using the bullet Jim was talking about in the beginning of this thread. The only thing I'd like to change about it is the nose length (id like it shorter) but, its stacking them at 200yd now with 81gr of 1.5f swiss, .060 poly, fed150m primer. The RP cases you gave me are very close to the starline cases I have so Im going to try that load in those as well!
Kurt, I hope to see you this year!! We have a few 22 matches at Lodi if your able to join us!! Just take care of them eyes so you can shoot at the Q!! Even then, a 38-55 can do well there!!
