Stephen ,it is a 18 .the 35 rounds I shot the other day required 1 breath down bore and it cleaned with 3 patches ,like its supposed to , the last round was on target as was the first.
Kurt , no it is a heavy half, kinda like shooting a 22.. it really hangs nice off hand,

These traditional chambers have me fascinated. The idea of no sizing and patching to bore has me sorely tempted. I gather 1/18" in the 40's was a traditional twist rate , rather than the 1/16" they ran in my sons 40/70 SS ?
Hell.. Shilohs dont have blemishes, only character. Should have figured Kurt would have had a double headed penny.

Stephen , I have a bunch of 285s loaded but I also have some of 265s I am using the bigger bullet to blow out the cases faster as it is a pretty low pressure load , You better get to gathering , it is a neat little round.prelimanary testing shows the edge goes to the 265 for accuracy , but until the pile is shot I am not going to pass judgement ,
I had to go look at the "blemish " in the picture , the stock is figured and the blemish is a change in direction of the flame pattern , interesting it showed up as it did in the picture , it does not show in the hand.

it is pretty funny all right , but if I get it working I may be able to con my lovely wife into shooting with me, she wont shoot the big rifles .. There is a method to my madness.

me too ,,,,, she is a little flnchy with the recoil and dont like noise , both of these things are surprisingly missing with the 40-50.

Watched Dean Scoggins shoot one of those at Alliance once, did real well with everything except the bear(970 yds) and the 1000 yd.

it seems to hold well in the wind , I was shooting it at 600 yesterday forming more brass and if I doped the wind right it hit , I think it might be a pretty good mid range ctg,
