Sam I use Midway's 45 caliber rifle nylon brushes. You want that brush to be oversized so the bristles push the patch and work it thru all the nooks and crannies..

LOL Kurt, I don't see me having a .50. I can see me putting together another 44, but not a 50. Don I do have some 45 nylon brushes, I got a pack of them the same order as the supposed 44 brushes. The 44 pistol brush does seem to fit tight enough to get into all the nooks and crannies. However what has bothered me was the fact that I had ordered a bunch of the Arsenal patches from Arizona Sharpshooters and it seem that no matter what brush I use it still wants to push through the patch. And yes I know a cloth patch is a lot tougher and not as likely to be punctured with the brush.
Oh well still waiting on the weather to get nice enough to get to the range, in the mean time the stocks are off of the 44 and getting some finish updates done to the wood. If i am lucky by the time I get the wood looking like it should it will be warm end dry enough to hit the range.

I've not had good luck with the arsenal patches, doesn't seem to matter brush or jag, it'll push thru them.
Flannel patches do a better job of wiping between shots anyway.

I was talking with DanT a while ago and he recommended I use a patch that carries more water than the arsenal patches. Just for the heck of it I saturated a number of different patches with water to see how much water they held. The big 3" Butches patches held more than 2x as much water as the arsenal patches. I'm saving the Arsenal patches for my grease groove shooters and am switching back to larger cotton patches for PP.
My new .45-90 cleans up much better with the Butches patches, although they are a lot more expensive. I should figure out how to clean them so that they could be reused.

I get cotton flannel from Wal-Mart. Three yards will make a bunch of patches the size that works best for the jag/brush your using for less then $20. They hold moisture and soak it up too. I use a roller cutter on a plastic cutting board and cut several layers in strips. It takes longer to fold the material then it takes to cut it.

I use flannel as Kurt listed above, certainly inexpensive and a small job to cut and you get the size you want.
BTW--being a certified cheapskate i even wash em up for practice patches and bench cleaning.

Yup me too------------they get common use at club matches, work just fine
Got 4 yards to cut up right now so i'll use new pretty ones the the state shoot
hope to select the load next weekend at the club match

What do you guys wash them with? Just soap and water, or maybe laundry detergent? I rinsed mine out last time and they still looked ugly :-)
