RE: Are we worried too much - Kurt - 03-05-2023 Thank you Arnie. I will be in Montana over Fathers day. But I think that yearly trip is closing down for me. I just cant sit behind the steering wheel for three days getting there anymore. I will talk to you when I see you at Rapids or Merrill about this. I think a 1/4 bore would be a good way for me to get going for this game. I have the equipment to get a barrel mounted on one of my CPA actions. These close 1/2 day driving matches I'm finding are sounding good. RE: Are we worried too much - beltfed - 03-07-2023 Oh, I forgot to mention that I beileve that "Princeton, IA club" is in fact the Davenport Schuetzen C.lub Arnie RE: Are we worried too much - beltfed - 03-07-2023 Also, regarding that problem with brass availability. The 32-40 BMW is a fine cartridge for Schuetzen that is considered an "falling off a log" cartridge to get started. Brass will last forever since, ia person can shoot just one case and breech seat. Can even use re-formed 30-30 or 32 Spl brass. I bit short, but works fine for smokeless loading I believe a person would not be too far off to get a 10 or 12 twist 30 cal barrel and chamber it for the 30-30. I know people that shoot the 38-55 BMW with good effect for a Main gun. Easier to see the 200 yds bullet holes Quarter bore, some are shooting the 25-35 to good effect. No problem re forming 30-30 brass again And the 38-50 Rem Hep can be used for both the BPCR and as a main gun. RE: Are we worried too much - Kurt - 03-07-2023 Thank you Arnie. This is just a beginning thought for me because I want to spend more time here with close matches going on with in just a 1/2 day or less travel time. The back just cant take the long trips anymore behind the wheel in the truck. I have two .375 calibers so that is done but I would like a .25 even if I make a switch barrel for one of my CPA's. Kurt RE: Are we worried too much - JKR - 03-07-2023 Arnie, I’ll be heading to Montana at that time as well. I’m interested in this match though and considering how close I am to EC, it’s a shame I haven’t gone down for it yet. I believe there’s a second match there later in the season, right? I can’t really afford a dedicated rifle but thought maybe I could get my feet wet with my 38-55. I doubt it’s capable as a Schuetzen rifle, but you know me. I’m game to try! I won’t be at Merrill this Saturday. My wife planned a surprise birthday party for me and I accidentally found out about it! Jim RE: Are we worried too much - beltfed - 03-08-2023 Kkurt, Jim, I Expectf The Eau Claire Schuetzen group will shortly be publishing its 2023 match schedule. I will forward around when I see it. There are , indeed other matches besides the June ISSA Regional Arnie RE: Are we worried too much - Kurt - 03-08-2023 TNX. Arnie. I would like to visit to see the format of a Schuetzen match. I don't know about June at this point but the Fall match will most likely be a go. I might even have a .25 caliber barrel on one of my actions. I made up my mind to get a barrel ordered and start turning it down on the lathe. I found rental reamers for some .25 chambers also. I just have to work out a ROT for what ever .25 I will make. I'm sort of leaning for a .25-20 or one a little larger in the .25-30 ranges. I have a couple old walnut tree crotches I will get the chainsaw out and see what I can find for a piece of wood. They should be well dried out in 15 plus years ![]() I think the fun will begin LOL. RE: Are we worried too much - beltfed - 03-08-2023 Kurt, Jim, For your Quarter Bore (25cal) project, people, myself included have gone with a 10 twist barrel to shoot the 115-120 grain spitzer plain base bullets like the NOE 117 grain MOS I have. At such time as we can get together at a match, you could try out shooting my Hoch 25-20 I am now thinking about an earlier Play Day at Rapids for doing not only BPCR, but other stuff like Schuetzen rifles Arnie |
