Great News Don! Kirk gave me a call on Wednesday filling me in on my order. When they were allowed to open again I got lost in the shuffle. They were out of 34 inch 16 twist round barrels and had to run some more. Kirk found the problem and corrected it quickly. Barrel is finished, installed and chambered with a paper patch match reamer. ETA is 2 or 3 weeks just allowing for the final finish on the wood. Very nice English walnut blank I've had for about 15 years. Planned for a 505 Gibbs bolt gun. I'll not get a chance to return to Africa due to declining health so it will be on the 1877. Like waiting for Christmas morning. Difficult to wait but All will be well. Hope you enjoy your rifle as much as I'll enjoy mine!

Eric as weird as this might sound the anticipation of the come and get it call, is part of the pleasure in these rifles.
This was going to be my last rifle,,,, but the thoughts of just one more 44-77 just wouldn't escape me,, the pay up or die letter came several days ago, so I suspect there may be 2 trips to Big Timber this year.

Mike is that the Mead industries in Nebraska? I got 200 more from them last spring, think I'm up to around 500 of those cases now. I think those guys might have bought all of Jamison's remaining inventory and possibly their equipment.

How can we convince Star Line to produce 44-77 and 44-90 brass? Sure would be nice to have another company start production. I might be interested in a 44-90 if a good source of brass was available.

I would be all over a 44-77 if brass wasn’t a issue , my 77 should be up for production in the next year or so I think. I have it scheduled for another 40-70 SS, that’s going to change to a 45-70 with a PP chamber .
Don, the checkering has me considering another option, beautiful . Shiloh’s CCH is so good I couldn’t pick anything else.

Randy I've seen several of these 77's with the checkering, and they influenced my decision to add it. I would suggest that 44-77 brass isn't quite the problem it appears to be, and it will be particularly interesting to see how Distant Thunder comes out with the BACO reformed brass.
Mike when I bought that brass from Mead, in conversations with the guy he seemed to indicate they were gearing up towards making brass, so maybe.....
It would be really great if someone would run the Jamison 40-70.
Tony Neilson also got ahold of a bunch of the 45-90 JBA was was selling it I got 100 from him. So unless I get really clumsy with cases I should have enough to last my lifetime and then some.
