Don I did a bunch of ladder loads from 21 gr to 28.5 several times using three different primers. and 26.5 to 27 gr always where the best with all of those combinations. I don't have any other powder here at home that is suitable for a reduced load. There is a gun show tomorrow and I will look for some other powder.
The good thing I just get a slight lead on the patch after a bunch of rounds fired.

4198 might work alright. Another thought might be to go with 4895 and then do the 60% of max youth load. Doing that in the 405 turned out one of the most accurate loads in that rifle.

4198 is a good powder for the .444. I have used it for the .444 with jacketed bullets as well as 5744 and 4759.
I'm looking for a good load between 1300 and 1600 fps. And I just have to set the chronograph up and see where I am at this point. From the time these bullets kick up the snow behind the target I think that I'm at the top end of what I want. A lot faster then any of my sharps shoot.
I have a alloy mix that I really don't know just how hard it is. I have a mix I used for the O3A3 that is a mix of Babbitt I used for pouring Steam Valve and Ammonia Valve seats and it is on the hard side but it sure works good for the fast twist bores. But I don't have much of it left.

I would think #2 alloy would be as good as any, even with black.

Nothing wrong with #2 but I had a lot of Babbitt at the time.
