Not sure when my mould will be done. RE: .38-50 Hepburn - Don McDowell - 01-09-2022 What are you getting for a mould? RE: .38-50 Hepburn - Kurt - 01-09-2022 That should work just fine. Arnie gave me a heads up with the problem I was having chambering my Winchester cases in my chamber that solved my problem. Arnie mentioned a .303 brit sizing die would reduce the case enough for it to fit his chamber so I took a measurement with a case I fired in my chamber and I found my problem was not the rim or base diameter but it was right at the shoulder by several thousands so I bumped a case 1/2" in my .30-30 die and that solved the chambering issue, but the .30-30 die is really to tight so I ordered a $17. Lee sizing die I will cut the neck off and use it for the rest of my cases. Yesterday I shot a few over 100 cases loaded with Unique and Cornmeal and got them trimmed and reloaded with a full load of black and a bullet to do the final forming and a second trim and I should be ready for load development. I want to get this done in time for the startup at Friendship. Keep it posted with your project. I can see a fun battle of the .38's starting

I have not fire formed anything yet RE: .38-50 Hepburn - beltfed - 01-09-2022 ian Hopefully the 1.47" bullet will be stabile in your 12 twist at least out to midrange. I had figured about 1.4" long for 12 twist. This 371345E has worked well in a couple of friend's 12 twist 38-50s out to midrange And should also out to 1K I had a 1.46" DDEPP mold 371360E cut for my 10 twist. Shoots well at 600, should work for 1K beltfed/his RE: .38-50 Hepburn - ian45662 - 01-10-2022 (01-09-2022, 11:24 PM)beltfed Wrote: ian I know I am probably pushing it a little on the length. I am anticipating the bore diameter bullet to shrink a little when it upsets. My thought is to have as much weight as I can on these projectiles so that they will knock rams over. When I ordered the mould they said that length and diameter should put me between 350 and 360 grains. At this point I am just guessing that I can get them close to 1400 fps but I have no clue. If they are to long I guess I will just buy shorter mould.OR…….. Get a 10 twist barrel ? |
