curious brass tumbling question - chaneylake - 04-11-2013
I tumble my brass in ceramic media from Shiloh, cleaning agent from Buffalo Arms, a good shot of Dawn and let her roll, brass was not shinny on inside, next time I did the same and added some "lemon juice concentrate" brass still not shinny on inside, the last time I tumbled some brass I used "lime juice concentrate" instead of lemon and the brass came out shinny on the inside also, I am not a chemist so I never thought that there would be any difference in lemon or lime concentrate. the time clock on each tumbling session was the same within 10 minutes

its just gotta be the 10 minute difference,
how long do you run them? I use sagebrush or mauers cleaner and run a slow speed thumblers about 3 hrs and they are shiny bright every time ,

being new to the sport including reloading cartridge I am using a RCBS vibrating tumbler that was my first purchase, I figured if she burnt up I would then buy the correct tumbler. I usually let her roll about 10-12 hours, the length of time is just because the tumbler is out in my storage room and the noise does not reach my 62 yo ears

Get rid of that vibrating tumbler. Don't work worth a dang with ceramic.......
NO vibrater tumbler is made for use with water, because the motor is under the bowl.
Get the tumbler and soap from Shiloh.
Love mine, and my brass comes out looking better than new.

I am going to stand pat on my cleaning for the short term, I will post pictures in a few days.
I will purchase a new tumbler sometime later this year

If using a vibrator, it's awfully hard to beat corncob media with a dashing dollop of brasso in it. Wash and dry your cases, a couple hours in the corncob and the cases are nice and pretty..

Also put in a squirt of Turtle Wax polishing compound to help with the shine.
NOTE: The insides of the cases will NOT get very clean. Just the 'nature' of the 'beast'.
Use the correct 'tool' for the job.

I use a vibrator tumbler with corncob media. I add a capfull of any liquid car wax. Always wash brass after tumbling, they may look shiney but have dust and grit that can scratch dies. While washing brass I use a brush I got from BA on the inside to get clean. Always more than one way to skin a cat.

All that extra work is a pita.
That's why I use the Thumblers Thumbler and ceramic media I bought from Shiloh Sharps.
The media does my work for me......
