Good weekend match
Last fall a friend invited me to come over to Alma Michigan to shoot a silhouette match with him on the AP Goodrich Range. I shot one at the Shiloh invitational but it never build a interest with me shooting this game till I went to Alma and shot there. I cant give it a high enough praise for what I found shooting it late last fall that makes me go back again and again even putting up with the hour long parking lots going through Gary Indiana getting there with a 6-1/2 hour drive but this place is worth putting up with the trip. I was made very welcome the first match and it has not changed in the four times I shot there now. Steve Decker and his crew of helpers do a fine and very relaxed job running the match. I have never heard one word of profanity since I been there.
The range is laid out well but the wind conditions are tough and the winds ate my lunch more then not Smile I have never shot on a range where the mirage comes from left and from the right at the same time and meet in the center and shoot straight up Huh still haven't figured that out!!
Last weekend Carolyn felt pretty good and said lets get out of the house a welcome for me to hear that she healed up well after surgery and ready to get back in the Gypsy wagon and hitting the road.
This was a three day shoot, .22 on Friday, 60 shot match on Saturday and Sunday a 30 shot. A lot of shooting for the matches and also a lot of time for practice and studding the winds on this range looking through the scope before shooting checking the mirages and not changing the scope settings and shooting the next shot with a different reversal. Watching the flags is just about useless on this range.....none agree......I had good days and shot well with out getting frustrated too much this weekend and picked up some pins and a very nice medallion for high scope.
Big GrinBig Grin during the award ceremony I was awarded LOL a diaper for shooting diapered bullets LOL What a fine bunch of people at this range....They are all winners in my eyes......Kurt

Exclamation 10 turkeys Big Grin Great job.
That's my goal in life to get one of those pins, hardest target to hit IMHO.

RE: Good weekend match
Don I don't have to much trouble with the turkeys. This is my second pin for them it's the pigs that make me bow my head. Saturday on the pigs I was straight till #14 and dropped it and got # 15 I can get 5 but never 10.
I have to give Dave Maurer a lot of credit. He is a regular on this range and Friday I was shooting the .22 getting sight settings and he was watching me shoot. I didn't know he was behind me. I dropped a few rams with the .22 and he said...can I tell you what your doing wrong....and I said by all means please do. He said shoot again and leave the empty case in the chamber and shoot again and tell me what you see the front sight is doing. I told him what I saw and he told me how to correct it. Next 3 shots on that 200 yard ram where on top of each other and I know this is what helped me get this pin with 13 consecutive hits, 3 sighter shots and 10 for record.

22 sillywette is perhaps more addicting than big bore Kurt

I have 3 rifles in the works right now one for me and 2 more for 2 friends----------never thought i'd spend this much for a 22 RimFire ------ or shoot 20$/box 22 cartridges

The other thing that's just wonderful is the grand kids can play the 22 game and have fun, while learning the fundamentals of shooting well------super training ground for anyone actually

Keep well and Stay Safe

Kurt, that's a problem a lot of people have, picking their head up to quick. leave your head down in the sights until the animal falls. I was almost freaked out this weekend at the 22 match, I saw every bullet go down range thru the MVA B5 scope.
Dave do some ammunition testing with your 22's a master score is easily doable with ammo costing 3/4 of that 20$ a box stuff. Just be sure to clean the bore well between ammo brands, as the different lubes they use can bugger things up for a serious test.

RE: Good weekend match
Dave.
Yes the .22 is a lot of fun knocking the little critters down. The little chickens at 50 yards are just about invisible for me to see in bright sun light using the irons Smile

Don follow through is not my problem. I hold the weld and see the critters fall or the dust kicking up through the apertures. Smile What Dave saw was where my off hand and fingers where. I forgot the term he used for my off hand, but with his advice helped me to do better.
When I broke the trigger the way I was controlling the rifle and the hammer dropped on the empty case the front sight jumped above the 200 yard ram. Following his instructions when the hammer dropped on the empty case the front sight was locked solid and did not move.
The last three shots I took on the ram were smaller then a quarter when I looked at the silhouette when I picked it up to reset it.

RE: Good weekend match
Hi Don -Perhaps, but 5 or 10$ is inconsequential to fun level for me------

After a bunch of testing i selected what grouped best in a 0 wind indoor range

All the rest is me and wind Smile

Kurt they are teenintsy aren't they ----------- one of my shooting friends won a 5 chicken pin and whupped me with my rifle at a resent match-------------i get a big kick out of watching the little bugger do somersaults when i get lucky Smile

RE: Good weekend match
Indoor does no good what so ever. Ammo for the 22 bpcr needs be tested on the rams, and not on the calm quiet days.. Almost any ammo, including the bulk box federal hollow points will take the pigs down from just about any rifle, but where the rubber hits the road is at the turkey's and the rams. And trust me, it's not unusual for someone shooting 20+ dollar a box ammo to get out shot by someone shooting 5$ dollar ammo.. The rifle will tell you what it needs.
Last year at the 22 bpcr nationals a friend wanted to try the game, but didn't have a rifle. So the day before the match I handed him one of my rifles and 4 boxes of it's favorite ammo (Aquila rifle match) and a book with the settings for the scope, he left that match with a AAA score.

RE: Good weekend match
Smile Dave I don't think I will ever see a 5 pin offhand even in the big chickens not alone the little 2 or 2 1/2" ??? beak to tail chickens Tongue I did manage to get one so I didn't have to eat just sand Smile off hand is not working for me Smile
I did manage to get 7 with the three matches combined so I did get some pinfeathers caught between my teeth but the weekend was fun Tongue
I think we had 32 shooters show up.
